According to industry tracker Sacnilk, War 2, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, opened with an astounding ₹52.50 crore nett in India on its first day of release. Despite falling short of Rajinikanth's Coolie, which made ₹65 crore on the same day, the high-octane spy thriller, directed by Ayan Mukerji, was one of the year's biggest openers when it opened on August 14.
Strong Regional Growth
War 2 surpassed initial expectations, despite advance booking trends suggesting a modest debut. Though it falls short of the records set by previous YRF Spy Universe hits like Ek Tha Tiger, the Hindi version made ₹29 crore nett.
Thanks to Jr. NTR's enormous fan base, the Telugu version brought in an incredible ₹23.25 crore nett, and the Tamil version contributed an additional ₹25 lakh.
Coolie's Box Office Race
With the two films combined earning an estimated ₹117.50 crore on Day 1, the conflict with Coolie took centre stage in the headlines. War 2 kept a firm hold on the Hindi belt while Coolie dominated the South Indian markets.
High expectations and mixed reviews
War 2 has received mixed reviews from the public; some have praised its slick action scenes while others have criticised its pacing. The extended weekend and the approaching Independence Day holiday, according to industry analysts, will be crucial for the movie's long-term box office prospects.
Maintaining strong collections across all regions will be essential for War 2 to keep pace in the competitive box office race.
